As creatives, we’re constantly searching for inspiration and to do that, we create monthly moodboards to drive our digital content. Instead of keeping inspirations to ourselves, we decided to share them with you! So check in each month to see what caught our attention.
This month, we are the inspired by “nudes”. As colors go, its warmth and lightness make a great transition from dreary/moody winter to fresh spring. Actually, let’s face it, they’re great all the time.
We also love that nude is raw, vulnerable, authentic, and varied, just like the leather we use. You know what’s also those things? Our skin. It protects us, changes with us and are so varied (in colors and textures). So in return for doing all those wonderful things for us, it’s only right that we take care of it.
We’re still learning about the best ways to take care of it but here are some lessons we’ve picked up along the way.
Cleanse and exfoliate gently
We love the feeling of a freshly washed face but we’re not so fond of the tightness that some cleansers (ahem foaming) can make us feel. Instead, we now reach for cleansing oils and balms. They’re cleanse effectively and gently.
Our skin is pretty good at shedding and regenerating itself. But sometimes, we do like to help it out by getting some good exfoliation. For that, we stay far away from products made specifically for exfoliation and instead, reach for a face cloth. Just a simple cotton one will do but even better yet, Japanese chambray towels. They have just the right amount of roughness to make our skin feel baby smooth but gentle enough to keep us feeling raw (the bad kind) and splotchy.
Pair the cleansing oil with the face cloth, you get clean and baby smooth skin.
Protect/treat wisely and flexibly
We’re amazed at how many products and methods there are to address every skin concern under the sun. Looking past all the products and methods (like the 10+ steps Korean skincare routine), these two things are of utmost importance: hydration and sun protection.
Keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water and using the right moisturizer. That could be a facial oil, a lotion, etc. Whether you have oily skin or normal or combination (side thought: why are skin types still a thing?), you need to hydrate your skin. It’s taken us a long time but we learned to be really flexible with the products we’re using and how much we’re using. Sometimes we pile on several layers (serum, lotion, oil) and sometimes, we only need one layer. Listen to your skin. Don’t be adamant about using all the intended products. Trust us, your skin always wins.
Something we’re not too flexible on, sun protection. Whether you’re into chemical or physical sunscreen, sprays or cream, sunscreen, use one.If your skin is the warrior that protects you then your moisturizer is the armor, and the sunscreen as the shield.
Skincare is not supposed to be and doesn’t need to complicated. Sure, it’s fun to add a bunch of concoctions onto the skin but follow these basic steps so you can allocate fun, time and money to other parts of your life.
